Every year, I recite the phrase that my grandmother, my mother and I now say: March comes in like a lion and leaves as a lamb. This year, March seemed to be mostly lion though. In the middle of a round of VERY cold weather and brutally cold winds, I had officially had it with winter, the cold, the grey and the aching bones. For Valentine's Day, I received a beautiful bouquet from our local produce peddler. My intention was to develop a composed painting of the bouquet, but......that went out the window when I broke from the intended composition and went wild with blooms and color. It became a bit too much but with some intentional cropping, it became a painting of joy. The lesson: Don't abandon a piece because it becomes 'too much.' Enjoy the lack of process on occasion and you might surprise yourself and others.
